Sergio Nieto-Montenegro, Ph.D. A native of Mexico, Sergio Nieto-Montenegro developed and implemented food safety training programs before coming to the United States. He earned his PhD degree from Penn State University, where he conducted research in food safety education and developed and implemented a food safety training program tailored for the Hispanic workforce in the Pennsylvania mushroom industry. He has also conducted research in human nutrition with the Hispanic population across Pennsylvania. Dr. Nieto-Montenegro has presented several workshops for different industries and organizations across the U.S. on topics related to Hispanic workforce management, cultural competence, development and implementation of effective training programs, and training strategies for Hispanic workers. His expertise also includes data collection and analysis with several Hispanic target audiences (focus groups, face-to-face interviews, surveys, etc.) in addition to individualized training for line employees. He currently works as an industry consultant and conducts food, health, and nutrition research and outreach programs aimed at the Hispanic population in South Carolina. America Chavez-Martinez, Ph.D. Ms. Martinez has been involved in the data collection, analysis and report preparation for several research projects. She has worked for several food companies in Mexico and in the US at the quality control, product development and consumer research departments. She has also worked with the International Center for Automotive Research Center in assessing needs and developing educational programs for Hispanic drivers in SC. His contribution to HWM includes the design of artwork for our tailored training programs and seminars. Hugo is also in charge of some of the administrative and marketing duties.
